Someone told me once that he calls people who drop by unexpectedly ‘Vampire Time Suckers’. As a business person, I understand that your schedule fills itself pretty rapidly, some days without you realizing it before you are frazzled. My experience has taught me that business owners, CEOs and Presidents have precious little time beyond their daily duties. Dropping by unexpectedly can cause their whole days to be thrown off and this doesn’t always leave the best first impressions. There are two sides to the success of dropping by; some people think that it shows initiative and stick-to-it-ness, but others find it as an annoyance (a Time Sucker).
Next time you need to get in contact with a business owner, I would suggest calling ahead of time to see if they are available at that time and making an appointment in order to get things started on the right foot. Nothing is worse than a business leader feeling rushed or inconvenienced by the service you provide. In addition to timeliness, when you make an appointment both people are prepared for the meeting and this will help to create the optimum result, a partnership.
